My Life’s a Holiday – How to Move Abroad

Prima Magazine asked me to contribute a “How to…” box for an article entitled “My life’s a holiday…” in the Prima ‘people’ section, focusing on people who have made a career out of what they enjoyed doing on holiday. This is the text of the box that was printed:

In 2004, almost 200,000 Britons moved to sunnier climates. Claire Bradford (www.straightforwardcoaching.com) is a life coach specialising in relocation. She offers this advice:

• Be clear on your reasons for moving – are you creating a new future or running away from something? Are your expectations realistic?
• Allow plenty of time to integrate into your new community and arrange regular visits from friends and family to help stave off homesickness.
• Nothing has to be permanent. Burn as few bridges as possible to keep your options open and the pressure off.
